Larger than life.

Brilliant – he had a “Beautiful Mind” way with numbers.

Who's ready for the conference?

So I just returned from a trip to Indianapolis to do some advance work in preparation for NEXT MONTH’S 2023 ICD National Conference at the Conrad Hilton Hotel.

We’re about six weeks away from reconvening for what is always our highlight training event. We expect this year’s conference to equal or surpass what you are accustomed to.
Who Wants a Free Hoodie?

At this summer’s ICD National Conference, we will be taking orders for a FREE UNION-MADE ICD HOODIE.

I know what you’re probably thinking. “There has to be a catch right? Nothing in life is free.”

Of course there’s a catch!
A few months back, we held our second and final Learning Summit of the year in Birmingham.

Learning Summits represent an excellent opportunity for ICD Staff and Summit participants to drill down on topics that have potential to greatly impact local programs.

As you will see, two of the main topics covered in this year’s Summits were robotics and virtual reality training.
The kids these days call it “FOMO.”

It describes that feeling you have of not being somewhere when something cool is going on, and you regret not being a part of it.

FEAR. OF. MISSING. OUT.

For those of you who may have missed last month’s ICD Learning Summit in Niagara Falls, fear not!
What is the future of training?

How will members be participating in the next 5-10 years?

Where is that sweet spot for ICD as it pertains to benefitting the members and helping a company achieve its objectives?

Am I really getting the best bang for my buck with certain educational vendors?
“It’s amazing how well people have adapted to online.”

Amen to that. Those were the words of an ICD Coordinator last week when our staff was conducting an annual ICD Database review.

The ICD Database now tracks when a tuition voucher is issued for an online college credit class. The information that prompted that statement from the coordinator came when we informed them that nearly half of all of their tuition vouchers issued in 2021 were for online courses.
The wait will be nearly three-and-a-half years. That’s a mighty long time.

The last ICD National Conference was in June, 2018, in Philadelphia, and a lot has happened since then. But the one thought that keeps running through my mind is: I can’t believe it’s been that long.

Don’t worry, we’ll fix all that when we gather in Nashville Dec. 8-10 at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel for the TWICE-POSTPONED ICD National Conference.
HOW-DEE from ICD Headquarters!

It seems like forever since we’ve seen some friendly faces – and even longer when you consider masks have been a part of it. We miss our friends and valuable members of the ICD family. That’s why we’re happy to announce the National Conference (yes, the one that was supposed to be in 2020 and postponed twice) is set for December 9-10 at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville.
Welcome to Learning Opportunities Week!

By the time I arrived at ICD in 2004, Jim Murry had long since moved on.

But his legend always remained.

I can vividly remember sitting in staff meetings while Harmon, Cindy and Jerry regaled us with stories of his grandiosity.

So maybe the third time’s the charm?

Let’s hope so anyway.

After initially postponing the 2020 ICD National Conference from April of this year to November, we are unfortunately in the position of having to announce another postponement.

Let’s face it. In ways both big and small, life as we know it will never be the same as it was just a few, short, simple months ago.

But here’s the reality: That doesn’t mean things will necessarily be worse, or better. Just different.

I’m insp...
