USW Local 307 President Jody Juarez wasn’t the only one in the crowd in Topeka, Kan., who knew Ron Hoover was touched by the honor.

“When (Ron) got up and spoke, he said of all the awards and honors he’s received, this one meant more than anything,” Juarez recalled.

And they sure did at the USW/U.S. Steel-Midwest Career Development Educational Fair and Open House on Thursday, June 21.

A special ribbon cutting ceremony for the new classroom was the highlight of the event.

As part of its Learning Week, which coincides with ICD's Learning Opportunities Week, ArcelorMittal is taking the initiative to promote the Career Development benefit to all Steelworkers employed by the company.

As we've said before, one of the truly gratifying aspects of introducing Learning Opportunities Week is seeing all the different and impressive ways programs have gone about achieving their objective of showcasing all of the exceptional opportunities available to Steelworkers through the Career D

Learning Opportunities Week was created when ICD Advisory Board member Mark Langbehn came to us and asked if there was a way to incorporate the national ICD program into ArcelorMittal's annual Learning Week, which is also this week.

It's hard to imagine a better response to the inaugural Learning Opportunities Week than has been put forth by all the programs from coast to coast.

A reporter from Public Radio International's The World program recently visited the USW/ArcelorMittal-Burns Harbor Career Development Program to speak to USW Local 6787 members there about what motivates them to seek the training we provide.

The USW/Continental ContiTech-Sun Prairie Local Joint Committee put together a site showcase, in lieu of doing a site video, for the 2016 ICD National Conference.

For more than a dozen years, USW/ATIMetals-New Bedford Local Joint Committee member Shawn Bowen has been using his Career Development benefit to pursue his true passion -- woodworking and furniture making.


After more than five years serving the members of USW Local 12 as ICD Coordinator of the USW/Goodyear-Gadsden Career Development Program, Bruce Phillips is retiring at the end of November.


The USW/U.S. Steel-Mon Valley Works Career Development Program (Mon Valley ICD) and USW Local 1219 recently teamed up for a unique Community Project.


Assistant Director Sean Hayden recently visited the USW/BFGoodrich-Fort Wayne and USW/Goodyear-Fayetteville Career Development Programs (but not on the same day!)


Executive Director Al Long and Program Specialist Korey Fiste recently visited the USW/Goodyear-Danville Learning Center to meet with the staff.


The USW/Bridgestone Americas-Des Moines Career Development Program hosted an Open House on Sept. 22 and 24, to welcome members to its new learning center.
